Begin the Journey

Are you ready to take the next step in your journey of faith?

This autumn, we are launching a new sacramental preparation programme at Hemel East, led by our team of catechists. If you are in Year 9 or above, we would love to welcome you and accompany you as you explore your faith, deepen your relationship with Jesus and discover what receiving the sacraments could mean for your life.

There is no single “right age” to begin. What matters is whether this feels like the right time for you. Talk it through with your family and take some time to pray about it—but remember that this is your journey and your choice.

If you feel ready, or simply want to explore what the next step might be, we warmly invite you to join us.

Confirmation

Confirmation is an opportunity to deepen the faith you received at Baptism, grow closer to Jesus and welcome the gifts of the Holy Spirit more fully into your life. Anyone in Year 9 or above is welcome to apply for our Confirmation programme.

Am I Ready?

You do not need to know everything about your faith or have all the answers before you begin. A willingness to explore, learn and grow is a wonderful place to start.

Some signs that you may be ready include:

  • You have a personal desire to receive the sacrament

  • You want to grow in your relationship with Jesus through prayer

  • You are willing to attend Mass regularly

  • You can make time for the preparation sessions

  • You have taken part in youth ministry or faith formation—or are ready to become more involved

If you are unsure, please speak to us. We would be very happy to help you discern your next step.

Ready to begin?

Applications must be received by 18th September 2026. (See the link at the bottom of this page to apply.)

You will have an opportunity to meet our catechist team on Saturday 26th September 2026. A meeting for parents will take place on Friday 2nd October 2026, following the 7.00pm Mass.

Confirmation sessions will usually take place once a month on a Friday evening, following the 7pm Mass. The full programme dates will be announced shortly.

(For those who are not baptised or have not received their FHC)

Interested in Becoming a Catholic?

RCIA Adapted for Young People

If you are of secondary-school age, have not been baptised and would like to explore becoming a Catholic, you are warmly invited to join us.

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults—adapted for young people—will give you the space and support to learn about the Catholic faith and prepare for Baptism.

If you were baptised in another Christian tradition, you are welcome to enrol in our Confirmation programme. Please speak to Fr Kim so that we can help you find the right path.

First Holy Communion for Young People

If you are of secondary-school age and have not yet received your First Holy Communion, it is never too late to begin preparing. If you join the Confirmation programme, your preparation for both sacraments will be included within it.

What You Will Need

Before we meet in September, you will need a copy of your:

  • Baptismal certificate for Confirmation or First Holy Communion; or

  • Birth certificate for preparation for Baptism through RCIA.

A Baptismal certificate is required even if the young person was baptised at Hemel East.

Your registration will be complete once we have received the appropriate certificate.

Take the Next Step

Whether you feel certain, curious or somewhere in between, you are welcome to begin the conversation.

Please note - Applications close on 18th September 2026.

We look forward to welcoming you and sharing this journey of faith with you.
